What is the
Lutheran
Church - Missouri Synod?
Clover
Trinity Lutheran Church and School is a member of the second largest Lutheran
church body in North America, the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).
Over 6000 congregations with nearly
2.6 million members comprise our body that is called a "synod" (The word "synod"
means "walk together").
Each
congregation is independently governed but shares in a larger LCMS educational,
mission and resource network that is staffed at circuit, district, national and
international levels. Professional church workers are trained at one of two LCMS
seminaries or through the largest private university system in the nation - the
Concordia
University System, comprised of ten schools
across the country.
The
LCMS headquarters is found in St. Louis, Missouri but this is not the reason we
include Missouri in our name. Historically, over one hundred fifty years ago,
some of the first Lutherans in America settled in Missouri and their biblical
theology has become the guiding light for our walk together since that time.
Thus,
we are called the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
